In short

  • All seven 2027 World Coffee Championships have announced host cities and dates.
  • The World Barista Championship moves to Tokyo, 28 April–1 May 2027, about six months after the 2026 final in Panama.
  • Lisbon (17–19 June) hosts Latte Art, Coffee in Good Spirits and Cezve/Ibrik; Bogotá (30 September–2 October) hosts Brewers Cup and Cup Tasters; New Orleans (9–11 April) hosts Roasting.
  • The 2027 rules had not been published as of 18 October 2026.
  • In India, the national finals are at IICF 2027 in Bengaluru, 26–28 February 2027.

This is the 2027 season at a glance: where each world title will be decided, when, and how you get there from a national championship. Everything below comes from official announcements by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), World of Coffee and the India International Coffee Festival. Where something has not been announced, we say so rather than guess. For last season’s calendar and champions, see our 2026 results and guide.

2027 World Coffee Championships calendar

The SCA runs the seven World Coffee Championships at its World of Coffee trade shows. Five World of Coffee events are listed for 2027 (World of Coffee); four of them host world titles.

The Bogotá venue comes from the Bogotá city government; the SCA announcements name the city but not the hall. Prize amounts for 2027 have not been announced.

What changes in 2027

  • The WBC moves to spring. The 2026 World Barista Championship runs 22–25 October in Panama City (WCC). The 2027 edition, the 27th, follows on 28 April–1 May in Tokyo, the first WBC there since 2007 (WCC).
  • Bogotá gets two titles. The World Cup Tasters Championship was added on 9 October 2026, joining the World Brewers Cup. The event is presented with the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (WCC).
  • Lisbon is new. It is the first World of Coffee event in Portugal (World of Coffee).
  • No separate SCA Expo. The SCA’s North American show now runs as World of Coffee. In 2027 that is World of Coffee New Orleans, and attendee registration opens in January 2027 (World of Coffee New Orleans).
  • Dubai has no world title yet. Dubai hosted the Cezve/Ibrik Championship in 2026 (see our 2026 results and guide); for 2027, that championship is in Lisbon, and none has been announced for Dubai.

How qualification works: national to world

You can’t enter a World Coffee Championship directly. Each country or region has a licensed Competition Body, usually an SCA chapter, that runs championships under the World Coffee Championships rules and sends its champion to the world stage (WCC Competition Bodies).

  1. Find the Competition Body for where you live and work.
  2. Enter its preliminary rounds and national final in your discipline.
  3. Win the national title. Your Competition Body then puts you forward for the world event.
  4. If something beyond your control stops you competing that year, the WCC’s Deferred Candidacy Policy lets eligible champions ask to defer to the following year (WCC Rules & Regulations).

Eligibility details, such as nationality, residency and age, sit in each year’s rules. As of 18 October 2026 the latest published rules are the 2026 editions; the 2027 rules had not been announced (WCC Rules & Regulations).

The India pathway for 2027

India’s national championships take place at the India International Coffee Festival (IICF), 26–28 February 2027 at Chamara Vajra, Jayamahal, Bengaluru. The festival is organised by the Speciality Coffee Association of India (SCAI) and supported by the Coffee Board of India (IICF). The finals include the 26th National Barista Championship, the Brewers Cup, the Latte Art Championship, the Indian Filter Coffee Championship and, for the first time, Coffee in Good Spirits. Winners represent India at the matching World Coffee Championships (The Hindu).

India status from the IICF competitions list and The Hindu. Filter coffee is a national event, not a world title.

One timing point to plan around: the Barista final ends on 28 February and the WBC starts on 28 April, so India’s barista champion gets about two months between the two stages.

How to prepare for a 2027 run

  • Read the current rules now. Start with the 2026 rules and scoresheets for your discipline, then check the summary of changes when the 2027 editions appear (WCC).
  • Plan back from your national date, not the world date. Your first deadline is the prelim registration, and that can close months before the world event.
  • Build the fundamentals first. Espresso and workflow come before routine design: see barista skills. For latte art, work through advanced milk steaming and latte art. For Cup Tasters, train with developing a specialty coffee palate.
  • Rehearse against the clock and the scoresheet. Record full run-throughs and score them yourself before anyone else does.
  • Watch past rounds. World performances are free on the WCC YouTube channel.
  • Sort travel paperwork early. The 2027 world events are in the USA, Japan, Portugal and Colombia, so visa lead times matter if you qualify.
