A coffee subscription is only as good as its fit: how much coffee you drink, how you brew, and whether you want one roaster’s style or a rotating tour. This guide compares 12 services on the things you can check before paying: price per bag, bag size, shipping rules, how coffees are chosen, and how easy it is to pause or cancel. We compare published terms only; we don’t score taste.
New to brewing at home? Pair your beans with our guide to barista-style coffee at home, and use the brew ratio calculator to dial in each new bag.
How we compared these services
- Price per bag and bag size. Bags range from 250 g to 12 oz (340 g), so a lower sticker price can mean less coffee.
- Shipping. Free, flat-rate, or free above a threshold, as each brand states it.
- Freshness promises. Roast-to-order and ship timing, as each brand describes it.
- How coffees are chosen. Quiz, app ratings, editor’s pick, or your own choice.
- Flexibility. Whether you can skip, pause, swap or cancel without penalty.

Trade: the true picture in 2026
Trade is the subscription we see described most inconsistently, so here are the facts from its own help pages.
- What it is. A marketplace that sells coffee from independent US roasters. Its site lists 500+ coffees from 55+ roasters (drinktrade.com). That means about 55 roasters, not 400 roasters: the 400–500 figure counts coffees.
- Price. Two tiers, as of 18 Oct 2026: Essential (Classics) at $16.99 per standard 10.93 oz bag or $39.99 per 2 lb bag, and Signature (Premium) at $21.99 or $49.99 (Trade Help Center). Signature holds most light roasts, espressos and all decafs.
- Shipping. Pay-per-shipment plans add $3.99 per bag. Prepaid bundles of 3, 6 or 12 bags, and 2 lb bags, ship free (Trade Help Center). It ships to all 50 US states, but not to Puerto Rico, APO/FPO addresses, Canada or abroad (Trade).
- Freshness. Each roaster roasts on its own schedule. Trade says coffee ships within 24 hours of roasting via USPS Ground Advantage and takes about 3–5 business days in transit (Trade Help Center). Its subscribe page says within 48 hours, so plan on one to two days.
- How matching works. You take a quiz about how you brew and what you like. Trade’s team, which it says includes Q Graders, scores each coffee for roast, acidity, body and flavour notes and matches those scores to your profile. New subscribers can start with a three-bag, three-roaster Discovery Trial, and Trade promises to replace a first bag you don’t like.
- Flexibility. Deliveries every 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 weeks, or every 10 days. You can swap or repeat coffees from the dashboard, make changes up to two days before an order is placed, and cancel at any time.
- Ownership. Trade is operated by Seed Leaf Inc. d/b/a Trade (2026 copyright and referral terms effective February 2026). It launched in 2018 backed by JAB Holding and the incubator Launch (Daily Coffee News), and raised a $9 million round led by Madrona in 2020 (GeekWire). We found no credible report that it has been acquired.
Verdict: Trade is the strongest pick here for variety and guided discovery. It suits drinkers who want a different roaster every bag without researching each one. The trade-offs are real but manageable: bags are 10.93 oz rather than 12 oz, pay-per-shipment adds $3.99 a bag, so a prepaid bundle or 2 lb bag is the better value, and it is US-only.
Multi-roaster and curated services
Atlas Coffee Club
Atlas sends a single-origin coffee from a different country each month: 12 oz of coffee with a postcard, tasting notes and the coffee’s history, roasted to order (Atlas). It charges a flat shipping fee rather than building shipping into the price (Atlas Help), ships only to the US and Canada, and lets you pause, skip or cancel at any time. Prices depend on plan size and a rotating intro offer, so price your exact plan on its builder. Best for: anyone who wants to learn origins and processing one country at a time.
Podium Coffee Club
Podium (launched January 2025) only buys from roasters that have placed at a major US competition, such as the US Coffee Championships or the Good Food Awards. It sends one 300 g (10.5 oz) bag of light or light-medium whole beans a month, from a different roaster each time, shipped within 24 hours of roasting between the 5th and 10th of the month (Podium). Gold is the approachable tier and Platinum the more adventurous one. You can edit, pause or cancel at any time, but roast level can’t be chosen. Best for: light-roast fans who want competition-calibre coffee without hunting for it.
Siip
Siip launched its subscription on 1 October 2026 alongside a free app that lets you scan and rate any coffee (PR Newswire). Each rating updates your taste profile, and the subscription sends two bags a month from the founding roaster that best matches it. There are 29 founding roasters, including Onyx, George Howell and Equator. Plans are Classic $18, Craft $24 and Reserve $30 per bag, with free shipping and cancellation in the app. A launch offer takes 20% off the first two months (Siip). Best for: people who like data and will actually rate what they drink. Since it is new, judge it on a few months of matches.
Dayglow
Dayglow is a multi-roaster café brand with a roastery and a Chicago address. Its Discovery subscription (from $24) sends single origins, mostly from international guest roasters, in 250 g bags. The house Dayglow plan is two 250 g bags for $48, and Rareglow is a 100 g monthly showcase lot from $35. Subscriptions ship free around the first of each month and can be cancelled at any time (Dayglow). Best for: light-roast enthusiasts curious about roasters outside the US.
Standout Coffee
Standout, based in Stockholm, is known for rare lots from producers such as Jamison Savage and Ninety Plus. It offers a monthly specialty box of 2, 3 or 4 jars and a separate competition-coffee box. Prices are in Swedish kronor (449–799 kr and 379–699 kr as of 18 Oct 2026), subscriptions ship free within the EU, and deliveries outside Europe take about 8–12 days (Standout). Best for: European readers, and anyone who sees coffee as an occasional luxury rather than a daily brew.
Single-roaster subscriptions
Blue Bottle
Blue Bottle prices most subscriptions at $22 and its Single Origin Assortment, which rotates every two weeks, at $27. Subscriptions ship free, and you can change, skip or cancel at any time. Multi-bag orders save up to 17.5%. A prepaid five-shipment option can’t be changed during the prepaid period (Blue Bottle). Best for: drinkers who want a defined house style, from bright to dark.
Counter Culture
Counter Culture’s best-selling Single Origin Series sends two 12 oz single-origin bags for $39, changing every two weeks. The Blend Box is two 12 oz blends for $35, and single-bag plans are also available. Subscribers save $2 per 12 oz bag, orders over $30 ship free, and you can pause, skip or switch at any time. Orders are roasted to order and ship within two business days (Counter Culture). Best for: the best value per ounce among the single roasters we checked, if two bags suit you.
Stumptown
Stumptown lets you subscribe to any coffee, such as its signature Hair Bender blend ($19 per 12 oz as of 18 Oct 2026). Deliveries run from weekly to every 8 weeks, subscriptions ship free, and you can pause, skip or cancel at any time (Stumptown). Best for: anyone who already knows the coffee they want on repeat.
Intelligentsia
Intelligentsia offers rotating plans (Intelligentsia’s Choice single origins, Classics blends and Seasonal Select), the Black Cat Project espresso line, or any blend on repeat. Every subscription order ships free, and you can cancel, skip or postpone from your account (Intelligentsia). We haven’t listed prices because we couldn’t confirm current ones. Best for: espresso drinkers.
Onyx Coffee Lab
Onyx subscriptions come in 10 oz, 2 lb and 5 lb whole-bean sizes, delivered weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Subscriptions are processed on Tuesdays and ship within 24 hours, and Roaster’s Choice sends a different single origin each shipment (Onyx). Orders over $40 ship free. Best for: lighter, more experimental single origins from a single roaster.
Death Wish Coffee
Death Wish sells bold, high-caffeine blends and flavoured coffees. Subscriptions start at two bags (15% off; 30% off the first shipment), ship every 30, 60 or 90 days, ship free to the continental US, and can be swapped or cancelled up to 36 hours before shipping (Death Wish). Best for: drinkers who care more about strength and convenience than origin. For another bold-roast brand, see our Black Rifle Coffee review.
Which subscription should you choose?
- You want variety without homework: Trade, or Siip if you’ll rate every bag.
- You want to learn origins: Atlas.
- You brew light roasts on a pour-over: Podium, Dayglow or Onyx.
- You want the most coffee for the money: Counter Culture’s two-bag boxes, or a Trade 2 lb bag.
- You drink espresso daily: Intelligentsia, Blue Bottle or Stumptown on repeat.
- You live in Europe: Standout.
Whichever you pick, a good grinder matters as much as the beans: see the best coffee grinder under $100, then work out the best brewing method for your setup. Summer bags also make good cold brew.
How much coffee to order
A 12 oz (340 g) bag makes about 22 cups at 15 g of coffee per cup. Smaller 250–310 g bags make proportionally fewer.
- 1 cup a day: one 12 oz bag every 3 weeks.
- 2 cups a day, or two people: two bags a month, or one every 10 days.
- 3+ cups a day: weekly deliveries or 2 lb bags.
Start smaller than you think, then increase. Most services here let you change frequency at any time, and a brew ratio calculator helps you use each bag consistently.
Red flags to avoid
- No roast date on the bag, or vague “fresh” claims with no ship timing.
- No stated origin or roaster.
- Cancellation only by phone, or prepaid plans that renew without notice.
- Shipping fees that only appear at checkout.
- Bag sizes that aren’t stated, which makes price comparison impossible.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best coffee subscription service in 2026?
It depends on what you want. Trade is the strongest for variety across 55+ US roasters, Atlas for exploring origins, Podium for award-winning roasters, and Counter Culture for single-roaster value. Compare price per ounce and shipping rules, not just the sticker price.
How much does Trade Coffee cost?
As of 18 October 2026, Trade’s Essential tier is $16.99 and its Signature tier $21.99 per standard 10.93 oz bag ($39.99 and $49.99 for 2 lb bags). Pay-per-shipment plans add $3.99 shipping. Prepaid bundles and 2 lb bags ship free.
How many roasters does Trade work with?
Trade lists 55+ partner roasters and 500+ coffees on its site. Figures like “400 roasters” mix up the number of coffees with the number of roasters.
Has Trade Coffee been acquired?
We found no credible report of an acquisition. As of October 2026, Trade is operated by Seed Leaf Inc. d/b/a Trade, the company that launched it in 2018 with backing from JAB Holding and later raised funding led by Madrona.
Should I choose whole bean or pre-ground?
Whole bean keeps aroma longer and lets you adjust grind as the coffee ages. If you buy pre-ground, choose a service that grinds for your brewer, as Trade and Atlas do.
Can I pause or cancel a coffee subscription?
Every service in this guide lets you cancel, and most let you skip or pause from your account. Watch for cut-off times (Trade: two days before an order; Death Wish: 36 hours before shipping) and for prepaid plans, which can’t be changed mid-term at Blue Bottle.
